62 WHEN Syracuse Morning Man Phil Markert contemplating another base clearing blast over the center field fence. In this early 70s shot, former WHEN radio sales manager, Tom Durney looks on from the on-deck circle, checking out Phil's near textbook "Hit It Out of The Park" swing. Former 62 WHEN PD/air personality Jeff Laurence says, "...The tee-shirts we had custom made for this event. A contingent of Japanese broadcasters came into Syracuse. GM Bud Stiker knew "those people" love baseball..so we arranged a game between the staff of the station and the Japanese broadcasters. The logo of 62/WHEN is obvious..but the Asian characters underneath? They're Japanese for "RADIO" Everyone got a shirt..and the Japanese broadcasters brought us all real honest-to-god Sony transistor radios direct from Japan.. While here they also swarmed the local Dey Brothers department store to stock up on Levis and US Keds."
