62 WHEN Radio Salina Street Studio - Deane Parkhurst
This photo was taken just before the station's studios were moved from the downtown Lowe's Theater Building (5th floor) to their new 980 James Street location. Deane Parkhurst in this photo interviews an unidentified guest. Microphone: RCA 44BX with WHEN mic flag. In background the station's new control board (GE-240), somewhat disassembled and undergoing testing. Deane Parkhurst: This was Studio "B" where I did my afternoon gig using the new board and CART MACHINES. First time ever for WHEN with that new technology. Prior to the carts, pre-recorded spots were cut onto 78 RPM disks using lathes in the master control area. There were three turntables in the master control room, one would only go at 33 1/3 and 78. The other two would run at 33 1/3 or 45.
