John "Jack" A. Morse November 14, 2019 -- John Allen "Jack" Morse, longtime Syracuse radio and TV personality, 84, of Manlius, passed away at his home on November 14, 2019. Jack was born at home in Whitney Point during a flood on September 17, 1935 to Richard and Elizabeth Morse. He was a graduate of Whitney Point High School and Syracuse University. From high school on his career was in radio and television. He started at WINR in Binghamton where he hosted "Sandman Serenade". In Syracuse he worked for WOLF radio, WHEN/WTVH radio and television, WIXT television, Syracuse NewChannels where he co-hosted "Magazine 13", and finally co-hosted a morning radio show with Phil Markert. He was best known as a sportscaster who created the High School Athlete of the Week Award and diligently covered high school, local, and national sports. Jack loved his family, walks with the coaches, plants, music and radio trivia, keeping up with sports, and his faith in God. He is predeceased by his brother, David Morse and grandson, Max Bassinson. Surviving are children, Meg (Scott) Bassinson, Cynthia Morse, John (Doug Wusterbarth) Morse, and Andy Morse; his children's mother Susan Morse; grandchildren, Paul Bassinson and Willow Lilkas-Morse; nephew, David (Diana) Morse and niece Amy (John) Persons and their children. Calling hours will be Monday, November 18, 2019 from 9 to 10am at Manlius United Methodist Church, 111 Wesley St., Manlius. Funeral services will follow at 10am at the church. Burial will be in South Street Cemetery, Triangle, NY. Contributions in Jack's memory may be made to the Max David Bassinson Music Scholarship, Augsburg College, 2211 Riverside Ave, CB 142, Minneapolis, MN 55454.
